Endodontic mishaps are procedural errors that occur during root canal therapy, potentially compromising the prognosis of the tooth and possibly leading to damage of surrounding tissues. These complications can arise at any stage of the treatment; starting from diagnosis and extending through access, shaping, and obturation. Understanding the underlying causes of these mishaps is essential for early prevention and timely management. This presentation will provide valuable insight into minimizing complications and enhancing the success of root canal therapy.

About the Speakers:
Dr. Yaara Berdan is an assistant professor and the Director of Undergraduate Endodontics at the Herman Ostrow School of Dentistry of USC. Following graduation from the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), she completed a Pediatric Residency Program at Children’s Hospital Boston and practiced pediatric dentistry in the Boston area for a couple of years. She earned her certificate in endodontics from the University of Illinois at Chicago and returned to Los Angeles where she practiced endodontics until 2008 when she began teaching at Ostrow. She is active in the American Dental Education Association (ADEA) where she represents Ostrow on the Council of Faculties and is Immediate Past Chair of the Section on Endodontics.
Dr. Emad Bassali graduated from the Herman Ostrow School of Dentistry of USC in 1994 and completed his certificate in Endodontics from Tufts University in Boston in 1997. He has maintained a private practice limited to Endodontics since 2001 in Sherman Oaks, California. He is currently an Associate Professor of Clinical Dentistry at Herman Ostrow School of Dentistry of USC. He enjoys teaching both dental students and endodontic residents and sharing his professional experience with them . He is involved in Organized Dentistry & is the past president of San Fernando Valley Dental Society. He enjoys playing tennis on the weekends.
