Reuben Kim, DDS is an Associate Professor in the Section of Restorative Dentistry and the Director for Collaborative Research Programs in the Division of Constitutive & Regenerative Sciences. Dr. Kim also holds a dual appointment with the Section of Oral Biology. Dr. Kim is currently the Course Chair for the 6-quarter long Direct Restoration courses for both first and second-year dental students and an active practitioner in the UCLA Faculty Group Dental Practice as a restorative dentist.

Course summary: The use of restorative materials goes as far back as the beginning of dentistry. Today, there are overwhelming numbers of restorative materials available in the market to use in daily dental procedures. Yet, the correct usage of dental materials, which is one of the most important determining factors for improving longevity and the final outcomes, has often been less appreciated and focused than the materials themselves. In this lecture, we will review the current status and the proper usages of dental materials in restorative dentistry to revamp the quality of direct restorations in dental practices.
