CDC Announces New Infection Control Resource

On March 29, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) released new resources on infection control in dental settings. A new guide titled “Summary of Infection Prevention Practices for Dental Settings: Basic Expectations for Safe Care” includes a checklist for dental providers to “evaluate administrative policies and clinical infection prevention practices.”Among its guidelines, the CDC noted the “importance of having one person in every dental office assigned as the infection prevention coordinator.”

This document supplements the CDC's 2003 guidelines with additional recommendations published since 2003. However, itis not a replacement for the 2003 recommendations, but rather provides handy checklists and helpful tools to help dental health care professionals. The new guide can be accessed on the CDC website.
